Overview
What is it?
FireXcape transforms fire safety training from abstract floor plans into visceral, immersive experience. Scan your building with a phone, load it into a WebXR headset, and watch a realistic fire simulation spread through the corridors you know. See exits get cut off. Feel the speed of fire. Understand what panic and smoke would actually do to your decision-making. It's not a training video, it's your building, on fire, and you inside it.
Current Status:
Developed as a competitive group project for XRCC 2026 (Extended Reality Creative Challenge), combining 3D Gaussian splat technology with real-time fire physics for browser-based deployment. Created with teammates Mohammad Asim Khan and Ronit Saha.
Core Features:
-
Real Building Scanning via mobile phone capture (Scaniverse 3D reconstruction)
-
Real-Time Fire Simulation with realistic spread mechanics
-
3D Gaussian Splat Rendering for high-fidelity environment visualization
-
Exit Analysis showing dynamic danger zones as fire spreads
-
Browser-Based Deployment — No app install; runs entirely WebXR
-
Immersive Training replacing traditional diagrams and floor plans
Why It Matters:
Proves VR/WebXR can save lives, transforming abstract safety training into concrete, emotional learning experiences that stick when lives depend on it. Demonstrates how immersive tech can turn safety compliance from checkbox exercise into genuine preparedness.
